From Comics to Cameras: The Roots of Retail Security Passion
Matthew always had a retail security passion, even before he knew what that meant. Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, he spent hours in stores with his dad, fascinated by product packaging, alarm systems, and how things were displayed. While most kids focused on toys, Matthew was focused on how people could steal them and how stores could stop them.
This early curiosity blossomed into a true retail security passion that would later shape his career. It wasn’t just a hobby. It was a mindset.
Following His Passion to Se-Kure
A Family Connection with a Purpose
After high school, during the uncertainty of the COVID era, Matthew reflected on his interests including movies, music, art, and always…retail setups. He realized his eye for design and detail could find purpose at Se-Kure.
Today, his retail security passion is part of his daily work in marketing and graphic design. He brings fresh thinking, especially from a younger shopper’s point of view.
Designing with the End User in Mind
Turning Frustrations into Fixes
One of Matthew’s biggest jobs is creating instruction sheets for product installations. His retail security passion guides how he thinks about clarity and ease-of-use. If he sees loose alarm displays or messy shelf setups in stores, he makes sure future instructions fix those problems.
“I want things to look clean and feel secure,” Matthew says. “If they’re wobbly, they’re wrong.”
A Fresh Voice in an Old-School Industry
Gen Z Eyes Spot What Others Miss
Matthew’s retail security passion also helps him evaluate displays from a younger shopper’s lens. He values aesthetics. He notices when things feel too clunky, too locked down, or poorly designed.
In a digital world, Gen Z shoppers like him want sleek and intuitive experiences. If it looks secure but doesn’t feel right, they’ll walk away. Matthew’s ideas help Se-Kure bridge generations in both design and messaging.
More Than a Job, It’s a Calling
Why Passion Makes the Difference
Whether pointing out a poorly placed mirror in a toy store or suggesting a better way to mount a phone display, Matthew leads with his retail security passion. It’s not just about stopping theft. It’s about helping stores look better, feel safer, and serve shoppers more effectively.
His journey shows that inspiration can start anywhere…even in the comic book aisle.
